Iggy (The Igloo Boy) - Wheaties Cereal mask (1940s-50s) - backside
This charming “Iggy the Igloo Boy” mask is a rare survivor from the 1940s–50s Wheaties cereal promotions, printed directly on the back panel of the box. Part of a diverse lineup of character masks, Iggy represents the fascination mid-century America had with “exotic” and faraway places—turning breakfast time into a playful journey across the globe.
With his round face framed by a heavy fur-trimmed parka hood, rosy cheeks, and toothy grin, Iggy gave children the chance to step into the role of an adventurous Arctic character. Like all Wheaties cutout masks, it was designed to be cut, worn, and discarded—making complete examples like this especially difficult to find today.
Beyond its playful appeal, this mask captures a slice of postwar advertising history, when cereal companies competed fiercely for brand loyalty by offering premiums that fueled children’s imaginations.
