King Bombo (Gullivers Travels) - Paramount Pictures - Heckers Flour - Promotional Paper Mask (1939)
This striking King Bombo mask was issued in 1939 as part of a rare cross-promotion between Paramount Pictures’ animated feature Gulliver’s Travels and Heckers Flour. Released to coincide with the film’s debut, these paper masks were grocery store premiums that children could cut out and wear. The reverse often featured promotional tie-ins such as “Lilliputian Cakes” recipes designed to further link the movie to home kitchens.
The bold design of King Bombo — the bombastic ruler of Blefuscu — made him one of the most recognizable characters in the promotion. Unlike Disney masks of the same era, Paramount’s Gulliver’s Travels premiums had much narrower circulation.
