Panda Bear - Salesman Sample Childrens Menu mask (1950s)
This charming Panda Bear paper mask dates to the 1950s and was issued as a salesman sample for promotional use in children’s menus at restaurants. Unlike the mass-printed versions that were distributed to kids at the table, salesman samples were created in smaller quantities as prototypes to show prospective restaurant clients what their menu promotions could look like.
The artwork captures the mid-century fascination with circus and zoo themes, depicting a wide-eyed panda in a festive red clown-style ruffled collar decorated with white stars. The reverse features a simple printed sample menu with classic mid-century fare such as fried chicken, French fries, and ice cream.
