Paul Bunyan - Wheaties Cereal mask (1940s-50s) - cereal box
This “Paul Bunyan” mask, issued on the back of Wheaties cereal boxes during the late 1940s–50s, captures the legendary giant lumberjack in bold mid-century style. With his oversized cap, toothy grin, and bushy mustache, this mask reflects the era’s fascination with American folklore heroes, making it a standout in the Wheaties character series.
Unlike many of the more whimsical animal and international characters, Paul Bunyan was part of General Mills’ effort to tie Wheaties branding to larger-than-life Americana. Most examples were cut out and worn immediately, and very few survived in full-panel form.
Measures: 10 x 10 inches
Date: 1940s–1950s
