Lithographed paper with fold-out ear tabs

An outstanding 1933 Par-T-Mask featuring RKO film star Richard Dix, produced by the legendary Einson-Freeman Company, masters of Depression-era lithographed premiums and advertising novelties. This mask is part of the Par-T-Mask celebrity series, one of the earliest coordinated sets of Hollywood star paper masks issued for theater tie-ins and promotional events.

Richard Dix, known for his rugged screen persona and leading roles in films such as Cimarron (1931), The Lost Squadron (1932), and The Whistler series, was a major RKO name in the early sound era. Masks like this were handed out to moviegoers and fans, often during RKO “Par-T-Nite” events and store promotions, encouraging children and adults alike to “become their favorite stars” for the evening.

Measures: 8.5 inches x 10 inches

Condition: Excellent color, minimal handling wear, crisp tabs marked “EINSON-FREEMAN CO., INC.,” “PATENT APPLIED FOR,” and “RKO PICTURES.” Eye holes and nose cut remain unaltered. Displays beautifully.

The mask’s lifelike portraiture and airbrushed shading are characteristic of Einson-Freeman’s finest period—when they were simultaneously producing masks for Wrigley’s Comic Club, Kellogg’s, and Paramount. The reverse side includes detailed manufacturer credit and the “Par-T-Mask” trademark, which later appeared on a variety of comic and Halloween themes.
