Introduced in 1920 by cartoonist Martin Branner, Winnie Winkle starred in one of the earliest newspaper strips to center a young, independent woman making her own way. She worked, dated, fought with bosses, wrangled family drama, and evolved with the country — from flapper-era shop girl to ambitious professional woman. Her strip ran for more than 70 years, a testament to her impact and cultural staying power.
