Blackbeard (Captain Teach) - Kelloggs Corn Flakes Pirate Cut Outs mask (1954) - backside
Here’s the infamous pirate Blackbeard — also known historically as Captain Edward Teach — brought to life on the back panel of a Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box during the 1950s Pirate Cut Outs promotion. Part of the “Captain Flint Pirate Cut Outs” series, these masks captured the mid-century fascination with adventure, high seas tales, and swashbuckling folklore.
This dramatic design, with bold red-and-gold headscarf, fierce eyes, and that unmistakable black beard, made it one of the most striking masks of the set. Issued as Cut Out #2, it was meant to be cut free, worn, and discarded — which makes original survivors extremely scarce today. Pirate-theme premiums were especially popular with kids, meaning very few intact masks made it through the decades.
