Bugs Bunny - Post Grape-Nuts Cereal mask (1960s) - backside
This colorful Bugs Bunny mask was printed on the back of Post Grape-Nuts cereal boxes during the 1960s, at the height of Bugs’ popularity on television and in theatrical shorts. Featuring his signature buck-toothed grin and playful wide eyes, this mask represents Post’s effort to tie into the Saturday morning cartoon craze by turning breakfast packaging into a playtime premium.
Unlike earlier hand-drawn cereal masks of the 1940s and 1950s, the Grape-Nuts series reflects the clean, bold style of mid-century advertising art. Bright yellow backing and large cut-out eye straps make this mask stand out compared to smaller, less durable promotions. Surviving complete panels are uncommon, since most were cut out and worn immediately.
