Dumbo (Walt Disney) - Wheaties Cereal mask (1951) - complete cereal box
In 1951, General Mills teamed with Walt Disney to produce one of the most charming cereal promotions of the postwar era: full-color Disney character masks printed directly on Wheaties boxes. This example features Dumbo, the wide-eyed flying elephant from Disney’s 1941 classic film. Children could cut along the dotted lines to create a wearable play mask, all while enjoying their “Breakfast of Champions.”
While most masks were cut out and discarded, this piece is rare for its complete cereal box format. Flattened and preserved, it shows not only the Dumbo mask but also the original Wheaties branding, advertising, and Disney tie-in promotions.
Measures: 10 x 14 inches (flat)
Date: 1951
Origin: Wheaties / Walt Disney promotional mask series
Rarity: High. Few Disney Wheaties masks survive in full-box format, with most known examples existing only as cut panels. Dumbo is among the more desirable characters in the 1951 set, with complete boxes rarely appearing on the market.
